Understanding diversity 


Inequality


1. Inequality comes when a person does not have the resources and opportunities that are available to other persons.


2. The caste system is an example of inequality.


3. The caste system divided society into different groups depending upon the work that people did and they were supposed to remain in those groups.


Example - potters only learnt pottery.


4. This system was considered irreversible, and it created a situation of inequality.


Diversity


1. People become diverse when they get influenced from different regions and cultures.


2. The history of many places shows us that different cultural influences have helped to shape life and culture there.


3. Regions became very diverse because of their unique histories.


4. Diversity also comes out when people adapt their lives to the geographical area in which they live.


5.Adaptation of the people living in the mountain areas will be different from the people living near the sea.


Example - Mumbai and Kashmir.

7. The influence of diverse culture is also related to our present-day behaviour. Cultural tradition also changes when we move from one place to another, and we adapt according to that place


Unity In Diversity


1.India is a country of many diversities.

3. India's diversity is a source of its strength.


4. When the British ruled India, women and men from different cultural, religious and regional backgrounds came together to oppose them.

of different backgrounds in it. They all came together and fought for the freedom struggle.
