HOW SHOULD PREPARE FOR CURRENT AFFAIRS FOR UPSC EXAM

Current affairs are inherent part of UPSC preparation and must not be neglected at any cost. Current affairs not only help in clearing prelims but are also very important for mains and interview.

Different people cover current affairs in different ways but few things are indispensable in covering affairs (in my personal opinion):

If you are a complete beginner then don't directly jump to current affair portion. You must do following things for current affairs preparation. They are -

• Read the syllabus of UPSC.

• Read the NCERT's. Here I will not emphasise on reading all NCERT's. But the relevant one. Some of them are 11 class polity ncert, 12 class economy ncert, 9 to 12 class geography ncert

• By reading the above things you will get familiar

with certain things which repeatedly comes in news.

• Now start reading the newspaper either the hindu or the indian express. I personally prefer THE HINDU.

• In starting it will take time around more than 2 hours, I was also not a exception to it sometimes it used to took 3 hours also. But later try to reduce it to 1 hour.

• Don't make notes from the newspaper. The rationale behind reading the newspaper should be to get aware with events which are in news.

Like- delhi pollution, quad grouping, any supreme court judgement these are always in news. Avoid reading news which are of political nature.

• Read the monthly magzine of any reputed coaching institute. Here i prefer vision ias monthly magzine.

• No need to search any online source like pib etc.

• Reading newspaper along with current affair magzine will take care of your dynamic part of the paper.

Hope it helps!

All the best....
