On 24 January 1950, 'Jana Gana Mana' was adopted as the Indian national anthem by the Constituent Assembly of India.

• The Indian national anthem is the first stanza of the Bengali hymn 'Bharoto Bhagyo Bidhaata (Bharat Bhagyo Vidhaata)' written by Rabindra Nath Tagore.


• Rabindranath Tagore wrote the national anthem of India on December 11, 1911, and it was first sung at the Congress session in Kolkata on December 28, 1911.


• The song 'Jana-Gana-Mana' composed by Rabindra Nath Tagore was first published in January 1912 under the title Bharat Bhagya Vidhaata in Tatvabodhini Patrika, the official publication of the Brahmo Samaj with Tagore as its then editor.

• The full version of the national anthem takes approximately 52 seconds to play, while the shorter version takes approximately 20 seconds to play.


• Article 51A (A) of the Indian Constitution states that: “It shall be the duty of every citizen of India to obey the Constitution and to respect its ideals and institutions, the National Flag and the National Anthem”.


• The Prevention of Insults to National Honor Act, 1971, was enacted by the Government of India to prevent any deliberate disrespect or insult to the country's national anthem.
